The Art of Dry Brushing:
A Step by Step Guide

I’ve been working in the hair industry for over 20 years, and if I had to pick my number one hair hack for healthy, vibrant hair, it’s a good bristle-y brush. That’s why we made The Only Hair Brush. Here’s how to use it and why it’s so effective.

THE DEAL

This brush has two key components: synthetic bristles (the taller, clear ones) and boar bristles. Together, they’re a powerhouse.

The synthetic bristles do the heavy lifting—they loosen dirt and debris from around the follicle and clean the scalp, removing all the environmental buildup our hair tends to collect throughout the day.

The boar bristles, made from keratin (the same protein as your hair), pick up the natural oils your scalp produces and distributes them evenly down the hair shaft. The result? Softer, shinier, and healthier hair.

Really? Just a Brush?

Think of this routine—brushing morning and night—as taking your hair to the gym. Just like our bodies respond positively to a challenge, so, too, do our scalp and hair. Brushing regularly helps strengthen your hair follicles, reduces frizz, and encourages more nourished growth. It’s not about babying your hair, it’s about giving it the consistent care it thrives on.

Use It This Way

If your hair is already great—awesome! Keep it up. If it’s less than amazing, brushing is even more important. Everyone should be brushing their hair, head flipped upside down, moving from back to front and side to side. This challenges your follicles in a good way, fortifying them and potentially even rejuvenating them for the future.

Good hair is all about scalp health. Regular brushing regulates oil production, protects against breakage and split ends, and reduces dryness. Over time, brushing will transform your hair.

Join me—and countless others—in making this a daily ritual.

It doesn’t matter what state your hair is in now; what matters is that we take care of it, maximize what we have, and invest in its future.

PRO TIP

After brushing, you’ll notice some hair and debris in the brush. That’s normal—and a good sign that it’s doing its job! Just clean your brush with a comb as needed. I do this about every 10 days. Remember, brushing daily for three to six months is when you’ll start seeing the real benefits.

Good luck, and stick with it! Just like going to the gym, you won’t see results overnight. But with consistent effort, I promise you’ll be thrilled with the outcome. Cheers!
